I'm going to jump on Hannah's bandwagon for reviews. These cookies were given to me in my Vegan Pal swap package. Although I eat wheat, my mother has celiac's disease, so I am well acquainted with gluten-free food options. I have eaten Pamela's cookies before but never this flavor. I remember them as being okay, but nothing to write home about. But not this flavor!!!
These cookies are packaged, three per section, with parchment paper discs between them to prevent sticking, and you can see that they are moist without being too soft. The dark brown color is from the molasses and there are slivered almonds sprinkled through the cookie - just enough. The flavor is a perfect gingersnap flavor with the spices in good proportion. The sugar level is high enough to make them like real cookies but not so sweet that it overpowers the flavors. The almonds were not stale (which is hard to do!) and think enough to easily meld into the texture of the cookie while letting you know they were there.
The texture isn't the same as a gluten-containing cookie for obvious reasons. For those unfamiliar, gluten is what holds the flour together and makes it chewy. Or gluey! So items made without gluten tend to be much more crumbly, dry, flaky etc. This cookie had a tiny after-texture of a drier flour but while you are eating it you really don't notice anything unusual.
These cookies are vegan by default since they are geared towards those with allergies or insensitivities. Moist, prepackaged vegan cookies are hard to come by, and so these were a welcome change from crunchy oatmeal raisin or oreo-type cookies. Too bad they only have 9 per box!
These cookies were eaten with vanilla almond milk served in a cup featuring my favorite character (Little My) from my favorite children's book series, the Moomin books by Tove Jansson - Finnish stories about a family of trolls living in the Finnish woods. The cup is made by Arabia of Finland, a ceramics company with wonderful style and quality.
